Violent Patient Going “Berserk” on PCP Not From Georgetown

Yesterday morning, GM reported about a rather disturbing tweet from the DC Fire and EMS twitter page:
@dcfireems: Update – EMS – 3000 blk Q St NW – violent patient – poss PCP – went beserk – crew sought refuge – patient in custody w/MPD – unit damaged
So a violent patient on PCP went berserk on the 3000 block of Q St? Yikes.
The AP came in and added clarity without really making the whole situation any less frightening for residents:
WASHINGTON (AP) – A man who became violent in an ambulance, forcing medics to flee, is in custody of the D.C. police.
D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Pete Piringer says the ambulance responded to an address on Q Street in northwest Washington shortly after 9 a.m. Monday.
Piringer says the patient was believed to be suffering from an overdose, possibly from PCP.
He says that after the patient became violent, the crew got out of the ambulance and radioed for police. The man damaged the ambulance, which has been taken out of service. Nobody was hurt.
Putting these two reports together it would seem that someone on the 3000 block of Q St. overdosed on PCP, attacked the ambulance crew (who had to seek refuge), and was arrested by MPD. Continue reading

New Billboard Almost Certainly Breaking the Law
GM was out on M St last weekend walking over to the Georgetown Running Company to pick out some new running shoes when he came across the garish billboard seen above. It’s been applied to the windows of the currently vacant space between North Face and the (also vacant) Philadelphia Cheesesteak Factory. The building is owned by East Banc.
The ad is for a beer called “Landshark Lager” an Anheuser-Busch beer made for Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville restaurant. While the yellow parts of the sign above are plastic adhesive signs, the black rectangle is actually a big screen TV playing ads for the beer:
This sign almost certainly breaks the law. While some building can get away with huge signs announcing their impending opening (like there was at the North Face store) this doesn’t appear to be announcing any new establishment. That is, at least GM hopes it’s not. We don’t need something as incredibly cheesy as a Margaritaville in Georgetown. Continue reading

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:
- Disturbing tweet from DC Fire and EMS: “@dcfireems: Update – EMS – 3000 blk Q St NW – violent patient – poss PCP – went beserk – crew sought refuge – patient in custody w/MPD – unit damaged”. GM’s going to have to check in with Sarah’s Market to see if they saw the commotion.
- Anybody missing their USAF epaulets?
- Will Sugar be forced out to be replaced with a take-out joint? (And could that take out place be BGR?)

2010: The Year That Will Be
Last week, GM bid 2009 adieu and labeled it a bit of a transitional year for Georgetown. Why transitional? Well, many places went (or stayed) dark last year. 2010 will be the year when a lot of lights get turned back on.
Below are just a few of the closed establishments that will open their doors in 2010:
Safeway – Target Date May 2010
It’s hard to believe that it’s been eight months since Social Safeway closed down. But according to the recently amended schedule, the new and improved Safeway will open its doors May.
Don’t expect the new Safeway to look like the old one, just closer to Wisconsin. No, the new Safeway is part of the chain’s overall rebranding effort to stake out a place closer to Whole Foods in the grocery spectrum. If you want a peek at what it will look like, stop by the City Vista Safeway by the Convention Center sometime.
GM will just be thrilled not to have to hike out to the Palisades anymore.
Apple Store – Target Date May 2010
A year ago this month, the whole city was lamenting the failure of Apple to obtain approval of its designs for a new store on Wisconsin Ave. A year later, the designs are approved and construction well on its way. Or rather, deconstruction well on its way. The old French Connection building is gone. Supposedly the new building will be constructed between now and May.
While Safeway is supposed to open in May as well, GM’s predicting that Apple will make a bigger initial splash. Continue reading
