ANC Round-Up: The Sublime and the Profane Edition
As announced in GM’s ANC Preview last week, Ugg Australia will be moving to the old Diesel location on Wisconsin. GM’s already had his say about his take on the popular boots, but he will add that the store design presented last night was down right tasteful. And it’s this balance of the sublime and the profane that seemed to define last night’s meeting.
Trolley Tracks
DDOT came by to update the community on their plans to rehab the trolley tracks on O and P Streets (actually, technically these are streetcar tracks since trolleys are streetcars that use overhead wires, which weren’t used on these streets).
The Sublime: What these streets will look like. Eventually. The tracks will be ripped up, repaired, and replaced with a newly secured foundation. The cobblestones will be ripped up, cleaned up, and replaced. The tracks will be flush with the cobblestones, hopefully preventing any more dangerous driving conditions. The sidewalks will be repaired and the trees protected or replaced.
The Profane: It’ll take a long time to finish. DDOT is estimating 18 months. GM is estimating at least two years. During which travel will be severely disrupted on those streets. Continue reading

WMATA Proposes to Stop Weekend Late-Night Bus Service
Yesterday, Georgetown Current’s Carol Buckley alerted GM to the draconian plan that WMATA is floating to close a massive budget gap. Among other changes, the proposal would stop all weekend late-night bus service between Georgetown and Dupont Circle and cut early morning service as well.
What WMATA is specifically proposing is the following:
- D2
- Cut off all bus service at 12:44 Friday night and 12:55 Saturday night (that’s four different buses each night).
- G2
- Cut off all westbound service from Howard at 11:44 Friday night and 11:47 Saturday night. Cut off all eastbound from GU at 12:18 Friday night and 12:22 Saturday night.
- Add one minute to morning peak headways and three minutes to evening peak headways
- Add a whopping 10 minutes(!) to all Saturday and Sunday headways (i.e., now buses will come every 40 minutes all-day instead of every half-hour). Continue reading

Georgetown Garden Tour Date Set
The Georgetown Garden Tour will be held on May 8th this year. This event gives you the chance to finally get behind all those secret garden walls you always crane your neck over (although GM should make sure you understand this event doesn’t give you carte blanche to just stroll into anyone’s backyard, no matter how awesome that would be).
Tickets are $30 if bought before May 2nd and $35 after. There will be seven homes’ gardens spread out across Georgetown open this year. The website offers descriptions of the gardens, but doesn’t actually identify which homes they are. See if you can figure them out: Continue reading
