Georgetown Temporary Library to Close This Saturday, New Library Opens October 18th

This Saturday, the temporary library on M St. that has served Georgetown while the historic library is repaired, will close. The newly refurbished historic library will open October 18th.

GM heard an intriguing rumor the other day that East Banc, the building owner of the temporary space, offered to extend the temporary library’s lease rent free. The idea would be to create a satellite library for lower Georgetown. Considering that Book Hill is is so high up Georgetown, this would be a boon to lower Georgetown.

Unfortunately, this rumor looks to be unfounded. An Eastbanc rep confirmed to GM yesterday that there were no such plans and that the lease will come to an end at the end of October. CB2 will eventually move in to the space.

  1. The public library should take EastBanc’s offer of having a satellite branch. It has become a popular destination for that part of M Street. What could it hurt. A couple of employees? It’s a no-brainer.

  2. We have to get disappointed for losing the opportunity of “satellite library” in lower Georgetown. The new historic library should give us surprise. Let’s look forward to October 18th.
