Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • Serendipity 3 already lost its Executive Chef. Could signal trouble, but then again, Hook lost Barton Seaver pretty soon after it opened (although not nearly this soon) and it turned out alright. Plus, Serendipity already has lines out the door, so that weighs in its favor.
  • Not too much else going on, but don’t forget the Rose Park Farmers Market tonight.

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • A report from inside the newly opened Serendipity.
  • GM reported on its opening a while back, but after monitoring its Twitter feed for a while, GM can report that the American River Taxi really is running service to and from Georgetown every day. GM’s going to try to take it to the ballgame soon. What a great addition.

Despite Rumors, Serendipity 3 Apparently Still Coming

Serendipity3 Sundae by Joanna8555.

It was over a year ago when Rodrigo Garcia and Britt Swann signed a lease for the old Nathans building with plans to open a branch of the famous Serendipity 3 ice cream parlor. The first reports said they could be open as late as late spring 2010. Then it was maybe that summer. Then the fall. And so on. Thirteen months later, the building looks brand new but the restaurant still hasn’t opened.

The long delay has led to a whole cottage industry of rumors. Many of which find their way to GM. The most recent rumor suggested that Serendipity 3 was pulling out of the project and that if something opened there at all, it wouldn’t be the ice cream parlor. Continue reading

Terrible Twos: The Fourth Most Popular Story

Serendipity 3 ice cream sundae by joanna3555.

In commemoration of the second anniversary of the beginning of the most recent incarnation of the Georgetown Metropolitan, GM is counting down the five most popular stories of the past year.

Today: Serendipitous Plans.

This article was an attempt by GM to gather the scant public and semi-public facts about the opening of the Serendipity 3 restaurant in the old Nathans space at Wisconsin and M. The duo behind the plans, Britt Swan and Rodrigo Garcia were (and remain) pretty tight-lipped about the project. About all GM could gather was that the then rumored opening date of April was unlikely. He turned out to be right since it’s almost 2011 and they’re still not open yet. Continue reading

ANC Preview: Uggly Boots Edition

If there’s one thing GM doesn’t get, it’s the appeal of Ugg boots. They’re bulky and not particularly flattering for most women. Yet they continue to be popular even if they’re not quite as trendy as they were a few years ago.

Why is GM bothering you with fashion critique? Because these purveyors of a canklefied silhouette are coming to Georgetown. At least according to the ANC agenda that was release yesterday. According to it, UGG Australia is moving 1249 Wisconsin Ave., where Diesel used to be.

What else is on the agenda? Continue reading

Serendipitous Plans

Serendipity 3 ice cream sundae by joanna3555.

As reported all over the place, L2′s Rodrigo Garcia and Rhino’s Britt Swan have signed a deal to bring New York’s Serendipity 3 to the old Nathan’s location. For those not familiar with it, Serendipity 3 is an expensive ice cream parlor in the Upper East Side. Depending on whom you ask, it’s either a wonderful high-end restaurant or a total tourist trap.

But what specifically can we expect for Georgetown’s Serendipity 3? The NYC location offers a menu of various burgers and sandwiches, including also such odd choices as macarroni pizza and a $1,000 sundae.

But beside this basic outline, what will the Georgetown location actually look like? GM inquired with Garcia and Swan and received no comment, so he had to do a little digging on his own. Continue reading
