CAG Hosts WASApalooza

CAG Hosts WASApaloozaTonight the Citizens Association of Georgetown held its April meeting and the subject of the evening was WASA. WASA Engineering and Technical Services Director David McLaughlin gave the audience a detailed breakdown of all the big projects the agency is planning for the next decade or so, both citywide and in Georgetown-proper. GM knows this sounds like dreadfully boring information, but it’s actually quite fascinating how many huge projects there are in the works. Check out some of them after the jump:

Obamas Dine Out in Georgetown

Saturday night the President and his family had their first night out to a private dinner since he took office.  They spent the evening here in Georgetown at Valarie Jarret’s house. The Chicago Sun Times reports:

From the pool report: “This was a family occasion at the home of Valerie Jarrett, long-time Chicago friend of the Obamas’ and now senior White House advisor. Daughters Malia and Sasha and what appeared to be three of their girls friends accompanied the president and first lady at what was described as their first private dinner party away from the White House.”

Jarrett lives at 3309 Water St.

Georgetown Getting Slaughtered in NBC Poll

NBC4 is running an online poll this month asking what neighborhood is better for peoplewatching: Dupont or Georgetown. Right now Georgetown is getting slaughtered almost 2-to-1. It’s kind of a silly question, but if “people-watching” would require extended periods of time with the tourists on M St., then GM would have to agree with the public on that one. However you feel, GM thinks we can all agree that the comments section of that poll makes us not want to visit either neighborhood.

But what do you think? Aren’t there better options to sit and watch people besides Georgetown and Dupont anyway?

This poll follows another asinine poll by NBC4: who’s got the best pizza, Armands or Ledos? Really NBC4? Those were the only two candidates you could think of? It’s like the polls were written by an intern with a 1998 copy of Let’s Go Washington DC.

Fox 5 Reports on Boys and Girls Club Closing

Vodpod videos no longer available.

GM reported yesterday about the closing of the Jellef Branch of the Boys and Girls club. He warned that the land transfer could be easily derailed if enough people feel that the city is only looking out for the affluent users of Jellef. Therefore the fans of Jellef should hope that the transition plans discussed in this report succeed.

Jellef Boys and Girls Club to Close, City to Purchase Land

The Washington Post is reporting that the Boys and Girls Club is going to close several branches in the D.C. area, including Georgetown’s Jellef Branch, right next to Social Safeway. The organization is severely struggling to ensure its long term financial future and has identified for elimination the branches with the fewest members.  What this means to the neighborhood after the jump:
