Not So Long Ago

Today GM is introducing a new and exciting feature to the Georgetown Metropolitan. You’ve all seen the “Then and Now” blogs and articles that show an old photo next to a modern day photo to demonstrate how much has changed, or hasn’t.
Most of the old photos on those sites are from a long, long time ago. This is great, but sometimes it’s more surprising to see how much has changed in a much shorter time period. That’s what GM is going to do for Georgetown.
Recently GM came into possession of a pile of photos taken of Georgetown storefronts by the Citizens Association of Georgetown in 1993. The photos were taken as part of an effort to clean up the signage around Georgetown. It’s an effort that GM is trying to repeat, which is why he was given these photos. Continue reading

More on the Future Georgetown Metro Station
Earlier this week, GM went over all that you need to know about a Georgetown Metro station. That same day, GGW pointed GM to a little bit more information on the possibility of finally bringing Metro to Georgetown.
GM originally wrote that other than a couple statements about the need to build a new split Blue Line through the central core–which would include a new station in Georgetown–little progress towards planning has been accomplished. That wasn’t quite right.
WMATA has convened a group of regional transportation and land use experts to form the Technical Advisory Group (TAG). TAG has been meeting for a little over a year to plan for the long term future of Metro.
Already the group has issued several reports of the problems Metro faces in the future and the possible solutions. Most interesting, for Georgetown, was the presentation published last October. This presentation discussed, among other solutions, the split Blue Line (as well as a split Yellow Line).
The presentation puts a little meat on the bones in terms of the numbers behind why a new line is needed and how it will help, but there are a couple other interesting points too. For instance, the group is contemplating two Georgetown stations, not just one:

- Dana Nerenberg is out as Hardy principal. She will continue to be the principal at Hyde.
- And shovel your sidewalks! Especially you corner lot people, don’t just shovel one side! GM will be out with a camera this weekend taking photos of the scofflaws. You will be put in a hall of shame.

Come Out and Support Georgetown Artists
Come out tonight, and through this weekend, to support the second annual Georgetown Arts show. The event, put on by CAG, will take place in the Georgetown Mall.
It will be on the second floor (that is, the floor below the ground floor) over on the west side by Dean and Deluca.
There was some great art last year, and GM expects it to be even better this year.

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:
- GM needs to correct something from yesterday: the ANC will not, repeat, will not be considering a resolution on GU’s ten year plan next week. Since they have until April for the Zoning Commission hearing, there’s no rush.
- JFK used to have his presidential booty calls at Paul Niven’s house at 3629 Prospect St.
