A new farmers market is coming to Georgetown. It will be run by the Licking Creek Bend Farm based in Needmore, Pennsylvania. It will be located in the parking lot of the old Marvelous Market at Wisconsin and P. It will begin in June and run on Sundays from 10 am – 2 pm.
Georgetown already has a few farmers markets during the summer. It’s got the Rose Park farmers market Wednesday afternoons, the Glover Park-Burleith farmers market at Hardy on Saturday morning, and a market at Georgetown University farmers market Wednesday afternoons (but only during the school year). So holding the new market on Sundays is a great idea. Plus, the more central location will be more accessible to a larger number of residents and visitors.
When GM first started reading the announcement, he thought it was an announcement for a full time farmers market inside the building, like Smucker Farms on 14th. That would have been great. But a weekly farmers market is still a nice use of otherwise vacant space.
GM asked whether a new tenant had been found, and the answer still is no. The wait goes on…
