Yesterday the Washington Citypaper published an article highlighting several complaints from Georgetown residents about Homecoming-related noise from this past weekend. While the piece itself played it pretty neutral, it was soon picked up on social media where a common argument emerged: Continue reading

Now and a Long Time Ago: Maison de Crepes
For this week on Now and a Long Time Ago, GM is breaking again from his normal approach of superimposing an old photo on a modern scene. He found this amusing post card selling on Ebay. It’s from a restaurant called Maison Des Crêpes and it was at 1305 Wisconsin.
The restaurant was an attempt at authentic Breton French food. It was started by the legendary Jacques Vivien. The Post obituary for him states that he opened Maison des Crêpes in the 1970s, but it appears that it was actually opened in 1967.

Sign a Petition to Support a Local Option for Hyde
As GM mentioned earlier this week, families of Hyde-Addison Elementary school and other community members are lobbying the DC Public Schools to provide a local “swing space” while the gym is being build at the school over the next year or two. Now those behind the efforts have drafted a petition. GM hopes you will sign it.
GM has heard some rumors that give him reason to be hopeful that a local option will be selected, but we need to keep up the pressure to have any hope that that will come to be. So please sign the petition!
The petition can be found here and here’s the flyer the group prepared:
