GM was looking out his window the other day and saw the this little guy hanging out in the parking lot of Oak Hill Cemetery. It’s a red fox. According to the National Park Service, this guy is part of a small population in Rock Creek. Apparently, there are about 6-8 fox dens in the park.
GM’s seen a red fox in DC one time before. It was darting across Canal Road. But this is the first time he’s seen one in such a less wooded environment. He actually looked rather comfortable lounging on the pavement, even scratching himself:
GM rushed out with his camera to get a closer shot, but the fox was gone by the time he got out there. Outfoxed, so to speak.

Neat!!!
I saw one on Campus once, after a late night at the “library”. Scared the living bejesus out of me.
Someone needs to feed the little guy.
I remember seeing one in Palisades a few years ago, in the partial wilderness of the old trolley line. But since we have every kind of deer in and around Georgetown, why not foxes? We should encourage them – maybe they can help with the rat problem. Meanwhile, someone get this little guy a flea collar!
The day of the estate sale at Evermay (June?) a red fox ran out of the Evermay gate, past the 20 people waiting to get in, and back into Oak Hill cemetery.
An aside: one of the 20 people was Albrecht Muth, in full “Iraqi” uniform.
That is a very laid back fox. They usually move quickly. The next thing you know, he’ll be on the water slide down by the river.
