Georgetowner Running for the Olympics Tonight

Tonight Georgetown grad and CAG program assistant, Elizabeth Maloy, is competing in the finals of the U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon. She’s running the 5,000 meters, which GM can tell you, as a former high school distance runner, is a brutal race. But Maloy is more than up to the task. On Monday she ran and won a preliminary heat for the event. If she is one of the top three runners tonight, she’ll be bound for London.

The race is tonight at 10:15. It will be shown on the NBC Sports Network, which is channel 848 on Comcast.

Good luck Elizabeth!

Thanks for highlighting this, Topher. Go Liz!

Also competing in the women’s 5000 finals is Emily Infield (MSB’12), who won the national title in the indoor 3000 this season. She’s coming back for one final year of college eligibility next year as a grad student in the Sports Industry Management program.

Andrew Bumbalough (COL’09, SIM’10) will be competing in the men’s 5000 final. We do know there will be at least one Hoya competing in Olympic track and field this year – Haitian triple jumper and 2010 GULC graduate Samyr Laine: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/olympics-2012/york-samyr-laine-olympic-mission-raise-hope-haiti-article-1.1101333
