DDOT Exploring Circulator Extension
When it rains, it pours. We were just days away from losing half our Circulator service when the Mayor stepped in to save it. Now news comes that we might double our service. The Examiner is reporting that DDOT and the Georgetown BID are in discussions to turn the remaining Blue Bus into a Circulator. This would mean a Circulator would go from the Rosslyn metro to Dupont Circle, via Georgetown.
This is all a bit of Deja Vu all over again. In 2007, DDOT worked with the BID to modify the then relatively new Circulator to take over the Georgetown-to-Foggy Bottom Blue Bus route. The BID always considered the Blue Bus to be a demonstration project for what reliable bus service could do in Georgetown. Having the Circulator take over the Foggy Bottom route was a culmination of that. Continue reading

Georgetown is a Walker’s Paradise
Most Georgetowners don’t need to be told what a joy it is to walk around our neighborhood. So they won’t be surprised that it’s been “proven” scientifically that Georgetown is just barely a “Walker’s Paradise” according to the Walk Score website.
Although GM is hardly one to argue with that conclusion, frankly the methodology isn’t quite sound. When you type in an address, it tells you a list of the closest coffee shops, or pharmacies, etc. But when you type in 3000 M St., it helpfully points out that the closest grocery store is some outfit called “Emerging Markets Private Equity” on Thomas Jefferson St. Something tells GM that they don’t stock much fresh produce.

Survey of Historic School Buildings in Georgetown: The Wormley School
As part of GM’s continuing series on the historic school buildings in Georgetown today he explores the historically significant Wormley School.
The Wormley School
3325 Prospect St.
Built: 1885
Current Owner: Private residences
Brief Story: The Wormley School was built and opened in 1885.
It was built specifically to educate Black children and was named in honor of James Wormley, a prominent African-American from Washington who lived from 1819 to 1884. Among other ventures, Wormley ran the Wormley Hotel at the corner of 15th and H. Its proximity to the White House made it a perfect location for secret meetings between the Tilden and Hayes factions during the great election controversy of 1876.
