The Morning Metropolitan

Beer on M St. by JB0912.

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • Commander Salamander closing. Or moving. It’s not clear.
  • The Current reports that the Glover Park ANC is pushing DDOT to more seriously consider a Wisconsin Ave. streetcar line. Right now it’s merely a to-be-considered-later line.
  • Want to go to the World Series of Poker? Show up at the City Tavern this Saturday for your chance.

According to the District’s proposed streetcar route alignments (http://ddot.dc.gov/ddot/frames.asp?doc=/ddot/lib/ddot/masstransit/streetcar/boards/dctf_openhousemaps.pdf , all of the wards in DC will get streetcars except for Ward 3 (there is a short connection to Woodley Park from Adams Morgan). There is an alignment from K Street (connecting to the Farragut North metro station) to Georgetown that will increase accessibility to this neighborhood and provide an alternative to the persistent issue of scarce on-street parking in Georgetown. There is also a route suggested for study going up Wisconsin Avenue from the terminus of the K Street-line in Georgetown. By endorsing joining the Wisconsin Avenue Streetcar Coalition on Facebook, you can help ensure that a route from Georgetown to the Tenley and Friendship Heights metro stations is not just a study—that it develops into a transportation alternative that helps reduce traffic and pollution for residents along the Wisconsin Avenue corridor, while bringing further economic development and jobs to the neighborhood.
