GM noticed from Carol Joynt’s photos inside the new Safeway the above message written in large letters across the store’s walls.
Note to Safeway, acceptable ways to say what you’re trying to say:
- Serving DC Since 1928
- Serving Washington Since 1928
- Serving The District of Columbia Since 1928
You’re not open yet, so you’ve still got time to fix it…

SUCH a good call. Score!
PS- My vote goes with “Serving Washington…” What resident ever refers to this town as “District of
Columbia?”
As in, where do you live? Oh, District of Columbia.
Nope. Doesn’t happen. Never ever.
I prefer “the District.”
Yeah, kinda sounds like, “the OC”.
Ken- hahaha. That’s it. We’re so O.C., the new O.C.; forget “Real Housewives.” In our reality show all the drama goes down at “D.S.” (aka, District Safeway)
look at the new safeway at 5th and L NW, and the one at the waterfront metro station—both say the same thing. my money is on them not fixing this.
I can assure you that this is being taken care of in all Washington, DC Safeway stores. In this case, the error was noticed immediately after the sign was affixed to the wall. The appropriate persons are aware and should have it changed prior to the store’s opening.
