Do you know the schedule for the development of the property immediately south of Safeway?. I saw that Einstein’s Bagels moved and that part of the property is now vacant.
Wow, Einstein’s closed? I was just there. Last I heard, that redevelopment was sent back to the drawing board. It was a really tacky suburban style design and the ANC and the OGB rejected it. But sometimes the redesigns go through without new ANC review, so maybe I missed it.
I agree, from what I remember of the renderings, it looks like something you’d find in Newport Beach or South Florida, not Georgetown. With the surface parking lots on either side of the commercial building and the empty plot of Safway land next to the driveway to that store, it is a considerable amount of land. There could be a good mixed-use project there if Safeway (I think they own the land) wanted to pursue that.
I think the sign in front of Einstein’s said it moved to CT Ave.
