The other day, GM noticed a new camera on the light post at Q and Wisconsin. Maybe it’s been there a while, but it’s the first time that GM noticed it. GM started to wonder whether it was one of those new speed cameras we’re supposed to get. So he contacted DDOT to see if they knew anything about it.
Turns out that DDOT doesn’t administer the cameras. So GM contacted MPD. Not hearing back by “deadline”, GM was preparing to write an article about the mysterious camera when he finally figured out that the camera is a DDOT camera after all.
Specifically, it’s a traffic camera. And DDOT’s got a bunch of them. Click over there and you can watch a live feed of the intersection, plus M and Wisconsin and M and Pennsylvania. (An old Google Streetview shot indicates that an different camera used to be on that same post).
This joins the red light/speed cameras, plus the various public safety cameras. So when you’re walking through the neighborhood: smile, you’re probably on some camera or another.

Even better, you can often see what they see: http://www.trafficland.com/city/WAS/index.html
