Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:
- Georgetown Waterfront among the best spots for a picnic in DC (if you happen to go back in time today, don’t mention this fact to a local, their head will explode).
- A food truck company bought Shanghai Lounge (GM went recently. The food is the same, which is to say decently good Chinese food. Although GM still misses Arisu).

Actually, GM, I’m concerned the food at Shanghai Lounge has changed. I was there on Tuesday night and the difference is subtle but real. What I liked before was the freshness of the vegetables, setting them apart from most Chinese restaurants. Crispy, not overcooked. That freshness is gone the new management, at least at my Tuesday dinner. The dumplings were still quite good, but the day we were there they were made fresh. That doesn’t occur on a daily basis anymore. You have to ask which days they will have fresh dumplings. I’m game to keep going, but I hope Shanghai’s new owner rights the lesser quality before becoming just another Chinese restaurant. With the former owners it was consistently well above average.
One bit of good news (maybe): they plan to start home delivery in two weeks, according to the new owner.
I loved the food at the old Shanghai Lounge and was a vocal champion of the place. I am so disappointed in how it has changed. It is still a decent place for Chinese food, and I’ll continue to go there, but it is just ordinary now where before it was delicious. My biggest complaints are that the dumplings are much heavier than they used to be and the sauces are thicker.
