Visit the Near Past on Google

This week, many people have taken note of the new feature that Google has added to it’s Streetview feature of Google Maps: the ability to flash back in time. It’s pretty neat, although the clock only goes back to 2008 or so. (Here are the instructions)

Nonetheless it enables us to quickly visit (virtually) old friends that have recently left us.

For instance, here’s old Nathans:

  1. Topher

The earliest shot is from Sept 2007, long after Five Guys moved in, sadly.

  2. So nice to see Nathans. I miss it as a patron. I miss having a pub at that corner that was open 7 days of the week, mid morning to the wee hours, that served good food and did its best to be a vital part of the community. Villages need their corner pubs. Georgetown, in particular, needs more of them.
