Old Georgetown in Color: Track Team

Georgetown_varsity_track_team_1910

This week on Old Georgetown in Color, GM sticks with the Hoya theme. Today it’s the 1910 men’s track team (or as the all men’s school called it back then: “the track team”).

There’s not much GM has to add except that this one took a crazy long amount of time to colorize, so enjoy. One thing he will add is that it appears as if the fellow on the far right is wearing a Georgetown Prep jersey. Perhaps he was a double Hoya.

The School of Nursing (now the School of Nursing and Health Studies) was founded in 1903 and admitted women from the very start.

It is safe to say, though, that none of the aspiring nurses at that time were running track. I’m not sure, but as best I can tell the first year of varsity women’s track/cross-country at Georgetown was 1977-78.

Hello, recently I was browsing at an antique store in San Antonio Texas and came across the exact black and white photo of the Georgetown Hoya track team that was imprinted on two large fabric curtain panels, each panel
measuring 5 feet wide and 8 ft. 8 inches long. The curtains are in excellent condition and the image is very clear. It was hanging from a very long curtain rod inside the store and immediately caught my eye. I bought it to hang it in my 103 year old home’s garage but decided not to risk having it damaged. What I would like to do is donated to a relative of one of the team’s member but do not know where or how to began locating family members. Would you have any idea where to begin looking? The other option is to donate it to the University of Georgetown’s athletic department, hoping they would hang it in their sports buildings. My email address is saucevs@sbcglobal.net. If you could refer me to the place or persons who may know the team members names please contact me. I think a family member would be delighted to own it. Thank you, Robert. 210 288 1238.
