Club Monaco Replacing the Rhino Bar

The Washington Business Journal reported yesterday that the new tenant of the recently vacated Rhino Bar space would be a familiar name to Georgetown: Club Monaco.

Club Monaco, for those not familiar, is a sub-brand of Ralph Lauren. It is, however, more Euro-oriented than Ralph Lauren (which simply acquired it, and did not originate it). And the fact it sells blandly European clothes may explain why you sort of remember it from its first go around in Georgetown, but not really.

It was were All Saints currently is (which is another Euro-style clothing shop you probably only vaguely remember walking by).

Will it do better this time around? Who knows, but it certainly continues with full steam the transformation of M St. (particularly west of Wisconsin) from a strip of mixed uses to one almost solely dedicated to selling (mostly women’s) clothes. This is an unsustainable trajectory, and GM hopes it slows down soon.
