Brazen Daytime Car Break-In

A brazen daytime car break-in was captured by a security camera last Saturday.

The footage, which can be seen here, shows the perp walking up to the car and break the window (he shows up at about the 1:38 mark of the clip). The way he just casually leaned against the glass before it shattered suggests he was using a special punch tool, ostensibly designed for emergency situations.

He then quickly reaches in a grabs a backpack and is on his way. GM unfortunately has his own experiences reviewing footage of thefts (in this case, package thefts from his steps). And typically the person walks by at least once first, takes note of the opportunity, then circles back, while checking that nobody is around.

If you recognize this guy, let the police know. And also, don’t leave back packs or other tempting items in your car. This is not to blame the victim in this case, but it is a good preventative measure.
