It might be worth noting that the map posted by the DC Council to commemorate the amalgamation of Washington City, Washington County and Georgetown is misleading. By the time the combination took place, the portion of the original District of Columbia that lay on the Virginia side of the Potomac had long since been retroceded to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
