  • Georgetown student reportedly raped in her house two blocks from campus
  • Georgetown’s Sweet Green lost to Dupont’s Tangy Sweet in an NBC poll. Unlike the “people watching” poll (also against Dupont), Georgetown at least made this one close.
  • WMATA is taking another look at the changes to the 30s series it made last year. You have a chance to chime in during two meetings.

  • Vox Populi finds a host of happy hours
  • Abe Lincoln visits the waterfront.
  • Love candy? Who doesn’t. So if you’re free tomorrow 12-2, come out to the National Confectioners Association on 30th st. for an open house. Call them at (202) 534-1440 to reserve a spot. There’s sure to be lots of free samples…

  • CAG reported that there’s a rumor that Pottery Barn is closing and Brooks Brothers will move in. In the same building Smith & Hawken is going to close.
  • Really, all the rest of the news was dominated by reports of Nathans closing. GM stopped by to pay his last respects on Saturday. How about you?

  • It’s not just 40 year old independently owned establishments closing down: Smith and Hawken is closing down too.
  • It’s not just massive garden supply store chains that are shutting down: Ritz Camera is probably liquidating its stores too (including the one on M St.).
  • At least Martins is still around; although if they do too many promotions like this, they won’t be.

  • As reported here, Carol Joynt is closing Nathans this Sunday. Coverage here, here, here, and here.
  • Depressed yet? How about remembering that it was ten years ago today that three people were murdered at the Starbucks across from Social Safeway?
  • NBC4 is doing one of those Georgetown vs. Dupont survey things again, pitting Sweet Green vs. Tangy Sweet. And Georgetown is losing. Again.

  • The Georgetown Current reports that the Naval Observatory will each day sound colors and play the National Anthem in the morning as they raise the flag and sound the colors as the lower the flag at night. GM can report that the bugle can be heard from upper Georgetown. Nice addition Joe!

  • The Georgetowner reports on the arrival of the National Confectioner’s Association to 30th St.
