Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:
- Tiny furniture store moves into Cady’s Alley. (The furniture is tiny. Not the store. Although it’s probably not large either.)
- Beers, Bocce, and charity at Pinstripes.

Now and a Long Time Ago: 33rd and M
This week for Now and Long Time Ago, GM stops by 33rd and M St. The old photo comes courtesy of Black Georgetown Remembered. The book says the photo is from the 1920s, but GM is skeptical. It looks like a much older photo, more like 1860s. But that’s just a guess.
Nowadays a large surface parking lot covers the southeast corner, but an old federal style building once stood there (and did well into the 20th century).
On the right is the Monticello House. According to Black Georgetown Remembered, it was host to a variety of black social groups. It was obviously torn down at some point, probably the mid 20th century.
