The Morning Metropolitan

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • Both the Office of Planning and DDOT came out in opposition to GU’s campus plan yesterday (well, technically OP supported it, but with conditions that GU will likely find incredibly objectionable). GM will have more on this later this morning.
  • Some waterfront restaurants starting to reopen.

DDOT did not oppose. They just said they need more information. They specifically praised much of the plan.

You’re right, they didn’t oppose, they “unfortunately cannot support” the application. And yes, they praised some aspects of GU’s transportation management, but they also were pretty critical of the quality and timeliness of the studies. If you can read that DDOT letter as anything but a setback to GU, I think you’ve got gray and blue colored glasses. But either way, the DDOT position is really minor compared to the Office of Planning report, which if adopting by the Zoning Commission would be hugely burdensome to GU, that is, of course if GU ever complied with it. What would actually happen is that they’d appeal the decision and probably get a temporary stay of the new conditions until a court could rule, which could take a while.
