Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

This is a heartbreak and it’s a shame nothing can be done to keep the program going. The last C&O Canal Boat got torched in the late 90s and the current boat was the replacement, plus upgrades to its docking facility. Little battery powered boats, while fun, miss the point of what the canal barge represents: history.
Also sad about this. We loved the canal trips, learned so much and through it felt a tangible part of Georgetown and its past. Even just seeing the mules hanging out between work duties was such fun; the canal trip was a truly unique must-do for visitors with children. So sorry for the future kids who will not get to experience this. Was the program really so under-visited to justify not refurbishing/reconstructing a canal boat?
