Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:
- In one of Georgetown’s more bizarre moments in history: a congressional committee met in the West Heating Plant yesterday to complain about GSA not unloading property fast enough.
- Only one more week to bid adieu to the canal boat. It is going to be destroyed next week.
According to a person who has worked as a volunteer on the canal and the canal boat for many years, the Park Service is guilty of demolition by neglect with malice aforethought. Rather than scrap her in situ, why not take “The Georgetown” out into the river and scuttle her there — “O, better that her shattered hulk should sink beneath the waves; her thunders shook the mighty deep, and that should be her grave.”
