Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:
- Sandy didn’t appear to cause too much damage around Georgetown, as far as GM could see walking around yesterday. Did you suffer any damage?
- Carol Joynt is reporting that another 7-11 is planning on opening up at the corner of O and Wisconsin.
The 7-11 on P St reopened just in time for the storm! Looks like they’re still not fully stocked, but getting there.
A 7-11 makes sense there, actually, since there are no grocery/convenience stores in that immediate area. It will get plenty of traffic from Hyde/Addison, and from neighbors that need staples but have no time to swing up to Safeway or pay Dean & Deluca prices for a dozen eggs.
I also miss Doc’s, which was a mainstay of my childhood, but realize that the traditional neighborhood shops aren’t coming back. I would rather have an honest 7-11 there than some phony shop selling over-priced stuff no one wants or needs. Hopefully the OGB and ANC will make sure the design will be in harmony with the neighborhood.
