Georgetown has lost it’s Mojo ! Everyone is going east towards Penn Quarter, Chinatown,Center City, Shaw, 14th St, and the new NOMA AND H ST st markets !!!
I always laugh at these posts. I will grant that those areas are in the “buzz” phase of their transition that is typical of any gentrifying neighborhood. Another 3-5 years and I’m sure Trinidad will have flashy new restaurants and hip coffee shops. This is all part of the exciting cycle.
I wouldn’t say Georgetown has lost anything but it’s in its own transition as well. Having two ultralux 5 star hotels opening in the next 3 months, and probably a Four Seasons Residences at the Heating Plant is probably a better sense of the direction the neighborhood is taking. Yes there will be fewer mom and pop knick-knack stores and probably more higher end chains and restaurants as demand and rents rise, but when you have a beautiful historic neighborhood combined with the canal, waterfront and a solid ‘brand’ for a destination area It is what it is. Change is necessary to continue growing and keep life in the neighborhood. – it is encouraging to see a lot of the new residents and families moving in and breathing new life into the area and schools as well!
Four Seasons residences is a pipe dream. One 49 room high end hotel. The canal is underutilized. I hope you have not seen seen whats coming to the Southwest waterfront. It makes the Baltimore Inner Harbor look like child’s play.
Got home goods and TJ Maxx coming in. I think that speaks for itself.
