GM wondered yesterday what was going to replace the recently closed Juicy Couture, and readers quickly responded. Kate Spade will be taking over the corner of M and Thomas Jefferson.
But aren’t they already occupying a space practically across the street, you might ask? Yes. They plan to move the Kate Spade store. But they’ll keep the old space for a newish concept: Kate Spade Saturday.
You might not realize but the Jack Spade store is also an affiliated brand, one targeted at men. So with this move there will be three Kate Spade stores in Georgetown. Quite a footprint.
Here’s another interesting fact about this company: the “Spade” in the name is familially related to the only other famous “Spade” you probably know, David Spade. The Kate of Kate Spade married his brother. That connection to the actor behind Joe Dirt sort of diminishes the cachet a bit doesn’t it?
