Wider Sidewalks this Weekend

As mentioned by GM a couple weeks ago, this weekend to coincide with Georgetown University’s parents weekend, the BID has arranged to widen some sidewalks on M St.

The temporary widening will be accomplished by taking out the parking lanes on both sides of M St. between Wisconsin Ave. and Potomac St. A similar technique has been used to great success up on Book Hill for the French Market the last couple years.

Timing it with parent’s weekend is a shrewd move seeing as how packed the sidewalks generally are for that occasion. But in many ways this should be viewed as a pilot. If it goes well, the BID will explore doing it more often and/or for a wider stretch of M St.

Oh and all Circulator rides going north on Wisconsin Ave. will be free this weekend too. Enjoy!
