As winter weather descends again, this is an important reminder that you need to shovel your sidewalks. Your neighbors depend on it!
This snowfall seems unlikely to produce anything that will require more than a broom to clean up. But as heavier stuff heads in over the next couple of months, stay ready!
You’re legally required to shovel the snow. Unfortunately the law on the books before November was impractical and never led to any sanctions, no matter the egregiousness of the violation. Legislation was passed, though, that will enable the city to directly fine scofflaws. The law won’t go into effect until next winter, but that’s no reason not to do your duty now!
As always, if you have senior, absent, or otherwise unable neighbors, do everyone a favor and clear their sidewalk too. (Unless it’s really, bad, GM generally clears his entire block.)
