More on the Georgetown Household

The Georgetown Household

Yesterday, GM related some of the basic (and less basic) datasets that describe the Georgetown household, at least according to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. Today, GM is going to dive into a few more interesting datasets:

For instance, in east Georgetown, 50% of residents are now married. In west Georgetown, however, only 30% of residents are married. It doesn’t appear that west Georgetown is full of divorceés; the number of residents who have never been married is 60%. For east Georgetown that number is 40%.

As for education, east Georgetown is slightly more educated than west Georgetown. A full 63% of east Georgetown residents hold a graduate or professional degree. On the west side that number is 57%. However, on both sides of Wisconsin, approximately 90% of residents hold at least a college degree.

In about 21% of east Georgetown households, English is not the only language spoken. For west Georgetown that number is only 17%. The majority of these households on both sides speak a non-Spanish European language.

On the east side, approximately 72% of the population over the age of 15 has a job. On the west side that number is only 52%. Lots of those people who don’t have a job aren’t looking for one since the unemployment rate is 6% and 5% respectively.

On the east side, the median housing cost is $2,482 a month. Homeowners pay $3,008 a month and renters pay $1,836. On the west side the overall number is much higher at $3,192. Owners pay $3,335. There’s no data for renters on the west side (the sample was too small). This might explain why the median is higher.
