A Lease Sign and an Opportunity

A reader pointed out to GM the other day that there is a for lease sign in the Sports Zone storefront at 3140 M St. GM has no information beyond that suggesting if the store is going to close or what could replace it.

But GM would like to point out that if the store is closing, the building’s owners should try to restore the building to its previous state as seen in the 1960s:

The windows are still there. And the architectural details above are still there, but not in great shape. But the whole street level is in terrible shape and displays none of the original details.

Moreover, while the current store has used the windows like a giant billboard it’s not a great use for the windows. They are a spectacular architectural detail and using them to show off the interior of the building would be a much better use than as a billboard. (Besides, a sign like that is probably no longer legal under new city signage rules).

So if there’s to be a turnover, let’s hope it refreshes the building.
