Turkey Saunters up Wisconsin

After a string of terrible scenes plaguing Wisconsin Ave., it’s nice to be pleasantly surprised. Yesterday morning GM stumbled upon this wild turkey sauntering up Wisconsin Ave. It crossed the street at the foot of Book Hill and headed further north from there. GM hopes it made its way to Rock Creek.

This is certainly the most unusual bird GM has seen around Georgetown, although it’s not the first time he’s seen a wild turkey in the District. Once he even saw one somehow lost on Pennsylvania Ave. just east of the White House.

Although it might feel like wild turkey numbers are booming, they’re actually on the decline nationwide. Scientists largely attribute that to challenges associated with nesting for the hens. Perhaps this one hopes to find a good spot here in Georgetown.
