For the first time since early 2020, ANC2E will meet in person next week. We will be meeting at St. John’s church on O St. This will, of course, be the first time that the current ANC has held a public meeting in person, so please come see our smiling faces in the flesh.
The meeting will be also broadcast virtually to those that cannot attend. I am personally excited to see how that works in practice. I see strong advantages both to being in-person and being virtual. In-person certainly allows for a more normal discussion. And, importantly, you can hear people actually laugh when you make a joke.
But the virtual option has enabled a much larger group of people engage in public meetings. I know for me, before I joined the ANC, I often listened in while making (and eating) dinner. Hard to pull that feat off in person.
For those reasons, I am hopeful that the hybrid version helps us achieve the best of both worlds. Apparently other ANCs have done so successfully, so there’s reason to be optimistic.
All that said, at least for now, the plan is to go back to virtual for the rest of the year, with the exception of possibly one more in-person meeting towards the end of 2023. Though if this meeting goes exceptionally well, perhaps we’ll do more than that.
The meeting will be at the normal time, 6:30 pm. A Zoom link will be circulated once the agenda is finalized.
