Topher, NBC quoted you as not liking to “see people treated this way” in commenting on the bones unearthed at Volta Park (formerly a cemetery). But these people long since departed this earth, whether to Heaven or to nothingness, depending on one’s religious faith (or lack thereof). They are free of care of earthly concerns, including how their remains are treated. Only their relatives care. And for (unmarked) graves now two hundred years old, are there any relatives left who care? And, if they do, shouldn’t they care more about documentation (if any) revealing the characters of their ancestors, than about some pieces of calcium (bones)? We want to respect the dead. But they can best be respected through our memories of them (which, alas, fade after a couple generations), not through their physical bodies. Sorry to comment on this subject again, but at 76 I’m close enough to the end to have a viewpoint 🙂
