Another Day in the Banality of Traffic Violence

Another day, another driver causing mayhem on the streets of Georgetown. And once again the only thing keeping this from being fatal is the dumb luck of there being no pedestrian simply standing on the sidewalk at the wrong time.

This crash occurred yesterday morning at the intersection of Wisconsin Ave. and R St. It’s unclear to GM what specifically occurred but it appears the driver of the light gray car smashed it into the dark gray BMW. The collision had enough force and momentum to send the BMW careening onto the sidewalk.

No one appears to have been standing there at the time, but again, that’s just due to luck. GM himself was at that exact spot just minutes before. Surely dozens of families walked through here to school during the same time period.

Adopt Sparrow!

As you may recall, GM and fam started fostering pets last fall. After three fun-filled months with handsome Socks, he found a fantastic forever home. Then poofy Sammy the cat came and found his home so quick he never made it to these pages. And now we’re hosting this lovable little oreo, Sparrow.

She’s an energetic black-and-white domestic short hair. She’s supposedly about 2 years old, but she has the look and playfulness of a kitten. Of the three cats that have come to live with GM, Sparrow is his favorite.

But her listing really encapsulates her best:

Like the colors she adorns, black and white, Sparrow will never go out of style! Sparrow is as small and quick as her namesake. This playful kitty loves toys—wand teasers, balls, and small stuffed animals will all have her jumping and scampering. She is a little goofball who can entertain herself (and you!) batting around a stuffed rabbit and chasing after it. She is also a curious cat who will enjoy exploring your home. You may find Sparrow inserting herself into the space between your bed and the wall, sneaking under sofas, and climbing up on windowsills. After her adventures, Sparrow will make herself at home by sitting on the sofa or bed next to her humans. Sparrow likes being close to her humans and is down to snuggle and be petted and scratched pretty much all the time. This girl is looking for a safe spot to land, someone who will protect her from the scary sound of a zipper, and someone who will give her some Temptations chicken flavored treats. Does that sound like you? Don’t you have space for this small girl looking for a home? Sparrow sure hopes so! Apply today!

So if you’re looking for a furry addition to your lives, she’d love to come home with you!

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • MPD searching for man who attempted to sexually assault a GU student in his house.
  • Final proposed map for the new ANC districts. (Apparently that was an erroneous statement. The final proposed map differs slightly, GM will publish it separately).

ANC Preview: Tiki Boat Edition

The ANC meets for its April session tonight at its usual bat time (6:30) and its usual bat channel (this zoom link). The agenda is mostly humdrum, but there are a few exceptions.

The first is a liquor license request from the Potomac Tiki Club. Specifically it’s a request for a marine vessel license. What it will be is a floating bar, but like some of those rolling bars you may have seen in tourist towns like Nashville, the bar patrons will be pedaling the boat. The boat will be based out of the Washington Harbour complex, and–like those rolling Nashville bars–will likely be super annoying to be around. Or maybe not, who knows. (Edit: Turns out this isn’t a peddle boat. It’s just a floating bar, which still sounds like it might get loud and annoying to other river-users…)

The second interesting presentation will come from Chris Martin, who is a principal at Martin-Diamond properties. He will be there to discuss his company’s plans for their properties in Georgetown. Those most notably include several buildings that were formerly among the cheap suit row of properties. As GM has previously mentioned, these will soon have a trendy French bakery and a bubble tea joint. It will be interesting to hear what else they have planned.

Here is the rest of the agenda:
