The Ravages of Dutch Elms Disease
Today
Three years ago
Two years in a row and two huge elms have been struck with disease and needed to be cut down near the corner of Q and 30th. GM is particularly worried about the next one down the line: the huge elm on the northwest corner of 30th and Q. This is perhaps one of the most beautiful trees in Georgetown. Let’s hope the disease was halted!

Movie Night
A couple weeks ago, GM had the fortune of having never heard the cultural phenomenon that is “Let it Go” the hit song from Disney’s Frozen movie. Then they played at it the first Concert in the Park where an entire neighborhood worth of 8 year old girls belted it out. Then he spent a weekend with his three nieces all under 10 years old. Needless to say his daughter now sings the song all the time, despite only knowing four words to it. Needless to say, it’s been stuck in GM’s head as a result.
Well, the Friends of Rose Park are having a movie night in the park this Saturday night where they will play Frozen. Sadly for GM’s daughter, it’s past her bed time, but if your little tikes can stay up a bit later, come on out!

After Peacock Room Retooling
It was only April when the long awaited After Peacock Room finally opened on P St. near 27th. Now there’s a sign in the door saying the restaurant is closing for most of the summer in order to “restructure” the kitchen and outdoor patio. The upside is that the restaurant will offer a full dinner menu when it reopens.
Obviously this doesn’t bode extremely well for the establishment. The reviews have been fairly good so far, so it’s not clear why the restructuring is needed. Opening a restaurant this deep into the neighborhood obviously carries risks and zero foot traffic, but that’s all the more reason more time is necessary for it to catch on.
Let’s hope it all works out well for the restaurant.
