Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • Philly Pizza became Go Fresh became Crave.
  • WaPo suggests Baked and Wired as alternative to Georgetown Cupcake crowds. Like all tourist-condescending Georgetowners, GM agrees with the sentiment but the thing is, Baked and Wired has some pretty long lines too these days.

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • The Georgetown Library will have its ribbon cutting next Monday at 10:45 AM. The party just keeps going when on Saturday the library celebrates its 75th anniversary with a grand opening party from 10:00 AM till 4:00 PM.
  • The anatomy of a Georgetown Cupcake line-dweller. (For what it’s worth, ever since Baked and Wired has been dubbed the official place-you’re-supposed-to-mention-when-casting-scorn-on-Georgetown-Cupcake, GM has noticed its lines get kinda bad when he’s passed by[which has also coincided with the shutting down of the Thomas Jefferson St. bridge which the owners of B&W were all in angst over]).

Where Do Your Loyalties Lie?

Illustration from pictures from Alicia Griffen and Hey Love DC.

Yesterday’s morning post discussed a neighbor’s ostentatious show of loyalty for Baked and Wired steps away from Georgetown Cupcake’s notorious line of customers. It’s a heated issue around town, and it seems to GM that most Georgetowners come down pretty clearly on one side or the other.

On the Georgetown Cupcake side, you’ve got a couple pretty strong points:

  • The cupcakes are nearly as nice to look at as they are to eat
  • The flavor variety is pretty incredible
  • They’re aspirational

On the negative side of the balance sheet for Georgetown Cupcake:

  • The lines, obviously
  • While waiting in said lines, you’re surrounded by tourists, which has only gotten worse since the reality show
  • The cupcakes are not that big
  • There’s nothing else on the menu Continue reading

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • Neighbors let hoards waiting in line for Georgetown Cupcakes that their loyalties lie with Baked and Wired (c/o Vox Populi c/o Suitablegirl)
  • Georgetown house makes PoP’s House of the Day (Personal note: GM once looked into renting an apartment in this house. The rental agent told him he wouldn’t want to live there since the rest of it was rented out to GU students. Now it’s a single family home. How times change…)
  • Reminiscing on Georgetown’s lost theaters.

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • Somehow the new 11th St. bridge will ease travel to Georgetown. How exactly it will do that, the Post doesn’t explain.
  • Finally an NBC poll where Georgetown is guaranteed to win: who’s better Baked and Wired or Georgetown Cupcake? (GM votes B&W)
  • Want to be a judge for the Taste of Georgetown on October 10th? Here’s how.
