Annual Rites of Spring Just Around the Corner

It’s easy to forget on a chilly mid-March day like today, but spring is right around the corner (daylight savings time starts this weekend!) And spring in Georgetown carries with it several annual rites. It’s not too early to start looking forward to them.

The Georgetown House Tour

First of the two grand dame tours, the Georgetown house tour will be held this year on April 30th. It is held every year to benefit St. John’s Episcopal church. As the title states, this tour gives you a chance to walk through 8-10 of Georgetown’s nicest homes. The patrons party is always the place to hobnob with the nobbiest hobs.

The Georgetown Garden Tour

Of the two tours, the Garden Tour is probably GM’s favorite. Like the house tour, you get a chance to look behind the gates of 8 or so homes, but GM just thinks there’s something more interesting about gardens than interiors. This tour will be held on May 7th, and is run by the Georgetown Garden Club. Continue reading

2010 Georgetown House Tour Announced

The 2010 Georgetown House Tour was just announced. It will take place on April 24th.

The Georgetown House Party is a tradition over 90 years old. It is reputed to be the oldest continuous private house tour in the nation. It is thrown each year to benefit St. John’s Episcopal Church on O St. The inimitable Frida Burling, who has been at or near the helm of the house tour for many, many years will once again be at the heart of the tour’s operations.

Oddly enough GM’s abode was not selected yet again this year (it’s the dead plants right?). Notwithstanding that grievous oversight, the tour will surely include a dozen or so lovely homes. Not to be missed, of course, is the tea held at St. John’s Parish Hall from 2:00 to 5:00. Continue reading

Georgetown House Tour Set For April 25th

Trying to catch a glimpse into other peoples’ homes is the unofficial pastime of Georgetown and its high season is upon us. The legendary Georgetown House Tour will take place April 25th from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Tickets are available now. If you buy them before the 19th, they’ll set you back $40, after that date it’ll be $45. More, including a list of the homes on the tour, after the jump:
