- Fun map of Georgetown from 1877.
- A rare auction of a Georgetown home was apparently taken off the table.

The map (which is dated 1874, not 1877) is interesting in suggesting that upper G’town north of Q St. and east of Wisconsin (my neighborhood) was totally undeveloped as of that time. Except it wasn’t…not entirely. For some reason (who knows why) the map fails to take account of the major estates (dating from the 1790s and early 1800s) which occupied much of that “undeveloped” land and still exist, namely Dumbarton Oaks, Evermay, and Tudor Place.
I interpret the map not as showing the land above R St as undeveloped, but not able to be subdivided into lots because of the presence of those estates. No buildings are shown anywhere, just lot numbers.
What is “The Slip” running behind the buildings on the east side of Wisconsin between P and R?
