Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• More on those snakes that shut down the library.
• Arrest made after string of sexual assaults in and near Georgetown.
• News is slow, and GM is going to be sticking to just morning links and afternoon photos this week.

2900 block of M St.

Last month, GM reported on how the ANC election season was beginning and how one current commissioner (Monica Roaché) had already announced her plans not to seek reelection. Candidate petitions were due this week, and GM can give you a full picture of who will be on the ballot this November.

Up in Burleith, long time ANC commissioner Ed Solomon will face Kishan Putta. Solomon has represented Burleith since 2005. Putta has actually served as a commissioner previously when he lived in Dupont Circle. Should be an interesting race!

In Georgetown, Joe Gibbons, Rick Murphy, Lisa Palmer will run for reelection unopposed. Elizabeth Miller is running for the first time to replace Roaché, and is also unopposed. Continue reading →

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• How the Key Bridge Exxon condos could affect the gondola proposal.
• While there haven’t been many signs of progress, and a large “for lease sign” is up, GM hears that the Compass Coffee is still coming to the old Georgetown theater.

GM has been doing “Know Your Trees” for almost a year. And the reality is that he’s covered just about 90% of all trees you’re going to see in tree boxes around Georgetown. So now he’s into the real deep cuts. And today that includes the Kentucky coffeetree.

The first thing to know about the Kentucky coffeetree is that it doesn’t grow coffee beans. It was named that because the seeds it does grow look like coffee beans. But that’s where the resemblance ends.
