• All about the new ice cream shop at M and Prospect.
• The Restoration Hardware is expected to close as early as the end of this month, with construction of the Wawa to follow.

The C & O Canal

Trees can be surprisingly resilient. And a good example of that is a healthy London plane on 33rd St. just north of O St.

Today it appears like a nicely progressing tree with two primary trunks splitting off at about seven feet off the ground. But that split has a cause, and that’s a violent storm in the spring of 2015. It left the tree looking like this: Continue reading →

• They already painted over the fake Commander Salamander facade. It would’ve been cool if they left it up.
• Although it won’t be delivering newsprint to our doorstep, a new local news site, the DC Line, has been founded by some ex-Current staff. Check it out!

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• Reminder: Volta Park cocktail party tonight and Volta Park Day on Saturday.
• GM saw a phalanx of vintage cars, and saw reports of extras in 80s garb yesterday.

Potomac River

GM took a ride down the almost complete Water St./K St. bike lane this week, and filmed his journey.

It’s pretty great! There are obviously some problems, of course. The main one being that cars are already parking in it. Hopefully this will be fixed once they install barriers. But it will likely be an ongoing problem because people don’t think it’s really breaking the law to park their cars illegally. It’s typical behavior with scofflaw car drivers. Continue reading →

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• They sure are trying to get the fake Commander Salamander right! Yesterday morning, GM saw a replica of a flyer for a Fugazi concert inside. This would be an anachronism for a movie supposed to be set in 1984, since Fugazi didn’t form until 1987. By the evening it was gone, replaced with a much more timely Minor Threat sticker.
• This house is a riot.
