Cycling Fashion Store Coming to M St.
According to a reliable tip, a new bicycling clothing store is coming to 3025 M St. (which formerly held the American Apparel store). The store, Rapha, specializes in clothing and accessories for road bicyclists (i.e. bibs, biker shorts, cold and wet weather gear, etc.)
The London-based company has only a handful of American stores so far. So DC is somewhat lucky to be added, although the bicycling scene here certainly justifies it. Continue reading

Children’s Theater Returns This Weekend
The City Kids Theater, a program from the National Conservancy of Dramatic Arts, will return with a show the next two weekends. Tickets are free, so you can’t beat the price.
The show this time is the Adventures of the Extra Ordinary Super Heroes:
It seems like a regular Monday for these unlikely purveyors of justice but an emergency of global proportions changes all that. Join this band of improbable and lovable crime fighters as they utilize their decidedly ordinary skills to save the day!
A smart and funny play recommended for ages 5 – 13.
The show runs 40 minutes.

Georgetown Time Machine: Lower Georgetown
This week for Georgetown Time Machine, GM is checking out a rare view of lower Georgetown. This photo, from the DDOT collection, is rare because so many of the vintage shots of lower Georgetown focus on the waterfront factories and warehouses. The jumble of industrial and residential buildings between K St. and M St. don’t typically feature in old photos like this.
There is so much to see in this photo, GM doesn’t even really know where to start. Unfortunately he can’t quite start with the date, since that isn’t clear from DDOT’s records. From looking at the cars, GM would guess the 1950s, but that’s just a guess.
The street at the bottom of the photo is 30th St. The large building just below and right of center is still there, part of the foundry building:
