As mentioned last week, GM was planning on being out of town this week. The above scene–a lush green lawn opening on the lapping Chesapeake Bay–was to greet GM each morning. But sadly a terrible snafu with Airbnb means he’s stuck in DC instead. Read on if you’re looking for a cautionary tale.
GM made his reservation for the house in May, anticipating that with the city pool’s closed, a mid July break would be needed. While GM first found the house on VRBO, he also found it on Airbnb. Since Airbnb offers a better cancellation policy, GM put in the request with that platform. It was quickly accepted and the deposit was collected. Continue reading

The last formal regulatory obstacle to Call Your Mother opening was crossed Tuesday when the restaurant received a Certificate of Occupancy for their Georgetown location. They are now permitted to open asap, although they have not yet announced when exactly they will open.
Some immediate neighbors will no doubt bemoan the restaurant opening (although nobody should give them grief if they nonetheless partake; if they are to bear to cost of living next door, who could begrudge them from enjoying the benefit?) But many more will cheer their long-delayed arrival. Things are grim around Georgetown these days. A perfect bagel from a day-glo storefront should help out a smidge.

This week for Georgetown Time Machine, GM is returning to the fabulous aerial photos from the National Archives. Today’s is a lot like some of the others from recent weeks, but the angle allows for a few more interesting discoveries.
This one is slightly earlier than the other ones, having been taken in 1927. One immediately obvious difference is that the aqueduct bridge was still somewhat passable, even though the Key Bridge was already built:
