ANC Preview: Changing of the Guard

December’s meeting of the ANC will be next Monday at 6:30 pm at Visitation High School. The agenda, copied below, is not especially juicy but it does reflect a large change on the way.
That’s because the commission will pass several ceremonial resolutions to give community commendation to the outgoing commissioners. And there are a lot of those this year. (As there were two years ago too). Commissioners Ed Solomon and Jim Wilcox came up short in their reelection bids; Monica Roaché decided not to run again this year; and the two student commissioners, Zac Schroepfer and Mara Goldman have also moved on. So that’s four commendations to hand out (Goldman actually already was awarded one back in June since she had to step down in May due to moving out of her SMD).
There are still a few interesting subjects beyond the ceremonial on the agenda. The commission will hear a presentation from Washington Gas about the much discussed leaks around Georgetown. They will consider a resolution about the construction of a massive water retention tunnel. And they’ll consider an application to cut down a ginkgo tree (yeah!).
Here is the full agenda: Continue reading

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:
- The same group trying to landmark the Exorcist Steps (in an apparent move to block the construction of new condos) have added the Car Barn to the application.
- Some more info on the coming closing of J. Paul’s. In short: It’s had a good run and its closing is tied to the closing of sister restaurants, Old Glory and Paolo’s. The landlord is actively seeking another restaurant tenant.
