A Tree Rebounds

Trees can be surprisingly resilient. And a good example of that is a healthy London plane on 33rd St. just north of O St.

Today it appears like a nicely progressing tree with two primary trunks splitting off at about seven feet off the ground. But that split has a cause, and that’s a violent storm in the spring of 2015. It left the tree looking like this: Continue reading

Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • They already painted over the fake Commander Salamander facade. It would’ve been cool if they left it up.
  • Although it won’t be delivering newsprint to our doorstep, a new local news site, the DC Line, has been founded by some ex-Current staff. Check it out!

A Ride Down the New Water St./K St. Bike Lane

GM took a ride down the almost complete Water St./K St. bike lane this week, and filmed his journey.

It’s pretty great! There are obviously some problems, of course. The main one being that cars are already parking in it. Hopefully this will be fixed once they install barriers. Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

  • They sure are trying to get the fake Commander Salamander right! Yesterday morning, GM saw a replica of a flyer for a Fugazi concert inside. This would be an anachronism for a movie supposed to be set in 1984, since Fugazi didn’t form until 1987. By the evening it was gone, replaced with a much more timely Minor Threat sticker.
  • This house is a riot.

Reminder: Don’t Drive Anywhere Near Georgetown Today or Tomorrow

Today and tomorrow they are filming the Commander Salamander scenes for Wonder Woman 2. And as part of it they are closing of parts of Wisconsin Ave. Today, from 9:30 to to 3:30 pm they’re closing Wisconsin from K St. to M St. And tomorrow, during the same time they’re are closing Wisconsin Ave. all the way from K St. to Volta Place.

It’s not clear whether they’ll try to restrict pedestrian or bike traffic as well. Production Assistants will surely claim tell people that they aren’t allowed to walk through, but they’re normally lying about it. There’s really nothing they can do to actually prevent you from walking down a public sidewalk. (If they’re are cops around, however, listen to them). Continue reading
