Good morning Georgetown, here’s the latest:

• The (or at least “an”) Afternoon Delight video was filmed in Georgetown.
• Word has been issued from DCPS that Hyde-Addison will have a local swing option during construction. GM will update as more information is released.

For this week on Now and a Long Time Ago, GM is breaking again from his normal approach of superimposing an old photo on a modern scene. He found this amusing post card selling on Ebay. It’s from a restaurant called Maison Des Crêpes and it was at 1305 Wisconsin.

The restaurant was an attempt at authentic Breton French food. It was started by the legendary Jacques Vivien. The Post obituary for him states that he opened Maison des Crêpes in the 1970s, but it appears that it was actually opened in 1967.

You may notice that the waitresses all are rather attractive. That was by design, as this jobs wanted listing from 1967 suggests:

• Taste of Georgetown is coming this Saturday.
• Nice new bike repair kiosk down by the waterfront.

Potomac River

Volta Park Day is returning again this year on October 30th from 3 to 6 pm. As always there will be rides, food, live music, and this year a costume contest. The traditional east vs. west softball game will take place at 2 pm.

• This isn’t exactly the “latest” news, but GM thought he’d pass on the fact that the “pop-up” District Donut on Cady’s Alley is going to be there for at least a year. So show your love and maybe it’ll stay even longer!
• Moving letter from Georgetown resident in 1945 protesting the segregation of DC parks (in this case, the exclusion of white residents from Rose Park).
