Small Hotel, Big Pricetag
On P St., in the building of a former law firm tucked away near Rose Park, a new hotel has recently opened. It’s called the Avery. It’s a tiny little boutique hotel, but wowzers, it is really expensive.
The hotel offers 8 rooms. And the rates range from around $250 a night for a small room with a Queen sized bed up to over $700 for a suite. Per night!
In fairness, GM checked the fanciest hotels in Georgetown (i.e. Four Seasons, Rosewood) for a similar random Tuesday in October and the rate started at $600 and went much, much higher. The Georgetown Inn and the Graham, however, offered rooms more in the $200 to $300 range. Continue reading

ANC Chair Not to Seek Reelection

GM has learned that Ron Lewis, who has served as the ANC chair for years, will not seek reelection this year. Ron has been a commissioner since 2006, representing upper western Georgetown.
Ron has played an instrumental role in many of the central issues that pertain to the ANC and the community. He was central to the ultimately successful negotiation with the university over the last campus plan. And he continued to be very active with the newly formed Georgetown Community Partnership committees that were formed as a result of the settled plan. Continue reading

ANC Candidates Signal Their Interest
As you probably know, this is an election year. As you probably don’t know (because you’re normal) this is also an election year that ANC commissioners are voted on. And this week was when the candidates can first pick up their petititions.
According to the list released by the Board of Elections, so far three candidates have picked up petitions for ANC2E: Bill Starrels (who’s been on the commission since the dawn of time), and two students Mara Goldman and Zachary Schroepfer. Continue reading
