Glover Park Hardware Reopens

GM tries to limit his news to the strict confines of Georgetown proper. It makes his job slightly easier. But sometimes a story comes along that’s technically outside those boundaries but affects Georgetown residents. And the reopening of Glover Park Hardware is one of those stories.

You may recall that in 2014, the store was evicted so that a utterly redundant Rite Aid could move in across the street from a CVS. The hardware store identified a location nearby (apparently after vetting a few Georgetown locations) at 2233 Wisconsin Ave. (down the steps next to Breadsoda). But interminable construction delays pushed the initially optimistic opening date back significantly. They were originally hoping to open early last year, and only finally opened this week. Sneakers to Replace Baguettes?

The ANC agenda for tonight was issued last week. And GM likes to peruse the agenda because it is often the first indication that a new store is coming to the neighborhood (since they need sign approvals). And this month’s agenda has that, but it may come at the expense of a longtime institution.

According to the agenda, the Philly-based high end sneaker store called UBIQ is seeking approval for a sign at 3124 M St. Sadly, that address is Bistro Francais’ address. Continue reading

Pottery Center Coming to Blues Alley

A new pottery classroom/studio will be opening soon on Blues Alley. Signs for Hinckley Pottery are up and the website confirms the move (they were in Adams Morgan).

The studio has been around more than 40 years and was at its Adams Morgan location for 25 years. Actually opening in Georgetown is a return for owner Jill Hinckley, who moved here and set up a studio in the late 1960s.

The studio will offer classes and event space, as well as studio space for six resident potters. Continue reading

CAG Art Show Begins Tonight

Tonight is the opening of the 2016 Georgetown Arts show put on annually by the Citizens Association of Georgetown. Once again it is going to be held in the beautiful House of Sweden on K St. The details are below. Come out and see how many talented artists live in Georgetown!

The talent of more than 30 Georgetown artists will be on view this year at House of Sweden for five days — Thursday, February 25 through Sunday, February 28. Last year was a record-setting year with over 800 people visiting the show. Sponsor House of Sweden has once again generously made their stunning rooms available for the event. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be several Artists Talks. So mark your calendar for February 25–28 to see your favorite local artists — and to discover new ones in the neighborhood!

RSVP required for Opening Reception February 25, 6-9pm

The opening reception will be Thursday evening, February 25, from 6 to 9pm. House of Sweden requires a list of attendees prior to the event. Please RSVP to CAGtownART@gmail.com by February 24th if you wish to attend the opening reception.
